We have been unicorn hunting for way too long
Whew, thank you for writing this Christina. Often times we need a reality check that aligns with what we're saying we want to see accomplished in this space. Perspective shifts...
Well done and thorough. You raise many compelling points about venture investing in healthtech. It seems almost antithetical, but maybe it's just refreshing to hear a VC say that smaller exits are valuable even though they don't make the headlines or scream unicorn, but smaller exits can still generate meaningful accomplishments and returns. Isn't that the point of VC?
As always, thanks for voicing the "un voiced" truth. I often find that some of the VC thesis is truly that "greater fool" theory. Unfortunately, we are seeing too much of "squeezing the air in the balloon" efforts in healthcare. Too many ventures rush to take perverse advantage of the well-intended incentive models (medicare advantage anyone).
It's refreshing to see someone that gets it. As the co-founder of a medtech I can certainly appreciate every point made in this article! I wish more VCs would share the same views.
That's a good soapbox to be on. Also we should chat.
